S02_P01: What Should I Do With My Morning Dreams?
Most dreams never let you wake up feeling good.
Yes, dreams can often be more interesting than any other daily experiences like playing video games and enjoying movies.
They can give you an almost realistic encounters which are often weird and bizarre situations — yet still fascinating or attention-grabbing for the one who just woke up. But most importantly, they are powerful. For they have the ability to influence how our mornings will start and decides how our days will unfold.
So, does it means that dreams are to be taken seriously?
We often try to decode what a particular dream from last night really meant. But to be honest, there's no point in wondering about what a particular dream means or is trying to say about your life, unless it is for this one particular case: The Rescue Dream.
The Rescue Dream:
One interesting aspect of dream is that you might often find yourself in a situation wherein a particular same dream is always recurring every now and then, as if it's trying to convey some deep essential message to your distracted conscious mind. I'm calling this “The Rescue Dream” because I believe that it embodies those repressed and unchecked expressions and desires of ours that we shouldn't be neglecting to live more autonomously. It manifests because it wants to rescue you from your current state of life.
If you have a rescue dream visiting you from time to time, what it means is that — from my own experience — a particular identity of yours is currently more concerned about that particular area of life the dream is trying to indicate, and that you need to have a deliberate look at it as soon as possible.
For instance, I often dreamed of a situation wherein I'm appearing for an exam with a high level of stress because I'm unprepared for it. And let me tell you: for me, the feeling of stress —while in the dream — would be as threatening as life or death.
Just like most of my other dreams, this dream really affected me. It dictated what the thoughts in my mind, and how the emotions I could feel would be in the morning. In short, it was the thing that decided my attitude for the morning.
But it took me years to realize later that it was a rescue dream. I often dreamt that dream because I was always scared of my cluelessness and unpreparedness for those major life decisions and of taking that leap of faith in uncertainty. I analized that whenever the waking hours of my life disrupted my self-assurance and philosophy of life, I would often find myself encountering that similar rescue dream each time.
Anyways, after making those hard choices to follow my curiosity to try and figure out my area of interest and skill, I am free from this dream for now. I'm say "for now" because if this dream happens to haunt me someday(or somenight), I would know that my philosophy of life must be analized again and aligned with my present life choices.
My rescue dream was then saying, “You're still afraid of those uncertainties.”
And my choice that I made was, “I've got to stop taking certainty as a necessity and make peace with my decisions.”
So what exactly should you do with your dreams?
It's only when you can see that your dreams are not letting you have a good and productive day, should you then use them to reflect upon their meanings and implications about yourself.
Listen only to those same frequent rescue dreams to figure out what they're trying to say about your deep instincts and desires. And resist yourself from thinking about those unnecessary “usual dream” first thing in the morning. Because it is otherwise energy-draining, time-wasting and mood-manipulating. Do something better instead right away: read, or prepare for your day. Thus you'll have good mornings.
Focus less on usual dreams; don't wake up on their mercy.
And know which one is a rescue dream; use them to reflect on your life decision.
